The Los Angeles Police Department released the names of the two Newton Division ghost pictures gang enforcement detail officers — Sharlton Wampler and Antonio Villegas — who police said both fired their weapons at 25-year-old Ford on Aug. 11 near 65th and Broadway.

Family members described Ford as mentally ill and said he was complying with officer orders when they shot him while he was lying on the ground.

Two years later, Hernandez filed a lawsuit in federal ghost pictures court. Amidst those proceedings, he said, he received a letter signed by LAPD Chief Charlie Beck in February 2012 stating that the department’s Internal ghost pictures Affairs Group was investigating “alleged misconduct.”
The attorney who filed the suit on behalf of the Hernandezes told the Los Angeles Times that the case was dismissed because of conflicting witness statements. The attorney representing Wampler and Villegas said the lawsuit had no merit, according to the Times.
